Documentation

The walls of the middle ear.

If we model the middle ear as a cubic space behind the tympanic membrane, we can recognize six different walls delimiting this entity.

The first two walls are saggital. The lateral wall, where is located the tympanic membrane, is the membranaceous wall; in opposition is the medial wall named the labyrinthic wall.

The next two walls are horizontal. The superior wall is named the tegmental wall and the inferior wall is the jugular wall.

The last two walls are frontal. The posterior wall is named the mastoid wall and the anterior wall is the carotid wall.
Notes
For the paries auris mediae, several new terms have been added giving credit to clinical findings (from Mansour S. Magnan J, Ahmad Hh, Nicolas K, Louryan S 2019 Comprehensive and Clinical Anatomy of the Middle Ear, 2nd ed. Springer, Cham).
